The Tube covers the platforms, the business and the craft of video for the people who make it. This page explains where our stories come from, how we use AI, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.

Original reporting

Articles with a byline are written or edited by The Tube. Stories bylined The Tube Staff are desk pieces: explainers, analysis and guides produced by the newsroom rather than a single named writer.

We report from primary sources wherever we can: platform announcements, official documents, data and the people involved. Every factual claim drawn from someone else’s reporting is credited and linked.

The Wire

The Wire rounds up what other publications are reporting, as it happens. Each item shows the outlet that published it, a short excerpt and a link to the original. We don’t republish their articles or their photos. When our editors add context, it’s labelled Our take and is clearly separate from the excerpt.

The Wire draws on publications’ public RSS feeds and, for a few sites without one, their public sitemaps. We identify ourselves to those sites and respect their robots.txt rules.

How we use AI

Some of our articles are drafted with the help of AI, working only from the source material we give it. Those articles say so at the end. Our rules for AI-assisted drafts:

  • It may only use the sources we supply. It may not add facts, figures or quotes of its own.
  • Every claim must be attributed to its source and linked.
  • It never invents quotes. Short quotes from sources are marked and attributed.
  • Nothing is published automatically. Every AI-assisted draft is reviewed, checked against its sources and edited by a person before it goes live.

We don’t use AI to generate images presented as real photographs.

Independence

Our coverage is editorially independent. Sponsorship never buys a story, a headline or an Our take, and sponsored content is always labelled.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. If you spot an error, tell us. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the article with what changed.
