The Tube is an independent newsroom for the people who make video: YouTubers, TikTokers, streamers, podcasters, and the editors, producers and managers who work alongside them.

We cover three things. The platforms: what changes at YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and the rest, and what it means for the people who build on them. The creator economy: brand deals, monetization, tools and the business of making video. The craft: practical guides to shooting, editing, packaging and growing an audience.

How we work

The Wire rounds up the best reporting from around the web as it happens. Every item is credited to the outlet that published it and links to the original. When we add our own view, it’s labelled Our take.

Our own stories are written and edited by The Tube. Some are drafted with the help of AI from the sources we link to; those articles say so at the end, and every one is checked by an editor before it is published. We don’t invent quotes, figures or sources.
